    Suggestions for Cad/Cam Software

Hello, I am currently in search of cad/cam software. I am on a lower end budget since i am still going to school for manufacturing. I have recently purchased a 3 axis mill with fanuc controls. I am wondering what you guys would suggest ? I have been searching about Bobcad/cam and DolphinCad and have downloaded the demos. I am used to MasterCam and SolidWorks at school. Do any other hobbyist have any suggestions? Thanks, Jake.

If you are just wanting to do 2.5D stuff then GSimple is FREE.

I use it to produce quite complex parts for radio control cars. It does most things, including thread milling, although I have to wrestle with the G-Code to make use of the thread mills that I have.

It does not work with 3D modelling software. For complex shapes, I have to draw my cutter paths in 2D and import them as .dxf files. I then let GSimple create an engraving path, which I then extrude in Z by doing multiple copy and paste on the text file.

But for hobby work it does the trick.

HI. I used MasterCam too not only at school). What can I say? I'm glad because of the comfortable online support and so pleasant community. About Bobcad/cam and DolphinCad I even don't know. If you are just wanting to do 2.5D stuff then GSimple is FREE? Good news!
