Hey all. We're a small family run job shop. We currently have a proto trak 1745 lathe that's getting older, and I'd like to replace it with something a little more current. Production to us is 20 parts, so I'm not needing anything with a bar feeder or anything of that nature. What I do need is ease of setup and programing. None of us currently know g code, but I don't consider that to be a big problem to learn/ train on. I've contemplated getting another trak lathe, but I'm currently pissed at them for the complete pos lpm machining center that we're currently stuck with.

I like the looks and features of the tormach. I think it's a little small for us though.

How much do you want to spend? You could always get a Mori. They come with conversational programming that posts to G-code and a swing down tool presetter standard. If you are looking at low end flat bed type lathes, the Haas TL series is not bad for light production and has conversational programming as well.

I think we're in the $40-70,000 range on what we can buy.

I hear really good things from friends about the mazak conversational control and know 2 shops that run mazak for all their lathes

Mazak has a great conversational than outrun all the competitor but every single brand now offer conversational kind programming. Mori is s little expensive, haas is cheap, anything with a Mitsubishi control include a great conversational and even fanuc offer it as an option. If your not afraid to learn that should really not be your first criteria.

We have a machine with Fagor control and I help customers maintain there machines (some with Fagor). Everyone that has used Fagor conversational loves it.
