Been very busy designing and fabricating other components for this machine. the TTS tooling cannot use all 5hp so I have a new power drawbar with 3600lb of force and a new modified Hardinge collet, I cut much more aggressively now with TTS but I don't any firm quantitative test results to publish yet, waiting to push the rpm up to 8k.
Been working towards a highly modified version of PP to accommodate everything I need moving forward.
I'm putting together a new website dedicated to all the professional upgrades I'll eventually make available as upgrades to greatly enhance the PCNC's commercial production capability. Things that will have a 12 month ROI, more chips faster + more money quicker if you are making some of your living with a PCNC.

You are running on standard 220vAC single phase, right?
I don't want 5 HP, but maybe they have something in the 2+ HP range. My mill will use a Tormach 770 cartridge, and I'm still trying to decide what motor to use.

There are brushless AC servos that put any VFD + 3ph motor to shame on a lb per lb basis. This motor weighs about 8 lbs and genertes 3.23kW (4.33hp) of power with a top speed of 4500 rpm. Its about 1/4th the size of the current PCNC 1100 motor:

Steve's right. The 1100 is a well designed, thoughtfully specified machine that lives within a sweet spot for power, speed, and tooling. Like the venerable Chevy 409, it can be stroked and bored, but the base engine is a solid performer. It is becoming -perhaps has already become- a classic of its type.
I can think of no greater accolade for Greg Jackson.
Unfortunate that John hasn't been back in the last 10 months to update this thread.
I would like to see how he has morphed his Tormach since this.

Tormach 1100-3, Grizzly G0709 lathe, Clausing 8520 mill, SolidWorks, HSMWorks.
I saw the link on CNCCookBook. I just upgraded pumps. I started to build the ring that popspipes describes but not having an o-ring in the 2" range, I went to the plumbing store nearby on Sunday. The only one close really was a LASCO #95, 1-3/4" ID, 2-1/8" OD, 3/16" thick. I was fighting with it because I didn't have a cutter that would go deep enough and it wouldn't go on even when I was widening the slot. Then, just for grins, I put the O-ring on the spindle by itself. It's hard to describe how well it fits and covers the ID of the seal. Good enough for now and since I had already put some silicone grease on it, I just left it on,
Reviving an old thread beacause the VFD on my 1100 series 3 just died (tr HF07 Watchdog failure fault code) and it seams like a good opportunity to get a more powerful VFD along with the 5hp motor I already have on hand.
