Brown and Sharpe is by far my favorite, I've used Mitutoyo, Starrett and the cheapos. B&S seems to be the smoothest one. The only thing that might be nice to have is that little wheel for fine movement, but it is easy and smooth enough that its really not needed.

I had to go to the tool box to answer this one : Mitutoyo, Starrett,Fowler, some old central Mics,Brown and Sharpe,Swiss Precision Insturments,Etalon,USA precision Test and some others that have so much use I can not read the names..40 plus years of collecting..some good, a few so comfortable they just fit, some just junk, but they stay in my box...

    Cool

Not an easy poll to answer, as its only a single choice poll!

I prefer the B&S dial indicators because of all the dovetail mounting places! I have several about 6! I prefer the 1.5" dia black dial face with .0005" increments. But I have .0001" and an .00005" indicators as well.

I prefer the Mitutoyo MyCal electronic .0005" calipers because of their durability over the years!

I have several manual micrometers of various brands, but prefer the Mitutoyo Electronic 0-1" x .00005 type for serious work!

I have a Mitutoyo bore gage .7"-1.7" x .0001" (just got it on eBay for $70)

I have an 18" Cannon long jaw vernier caliper (use it all the time)

    I have a 52" El-China-Chepo vernier caliper (I tolerate its cheesy quality)

I have a set of master gage blocks from ????, but they are accurate enough for my sine plate!

Last but not least are the three sets of SPI gage pins, up to .500"!

My secret wepon is a 6" B&S Planer Gage in wooden box, and it gets used all the time too for measurement transfers!

LS Starrett makes the best small hole gages & telescoping bore gages, even though the Mitutoyo's are nicely cadmium plated!

    They all work for me.

For most of my hobby work at home I use elcheapo and at work I have mostly starrett. .001" is .001"

Lately the most consistent brand at our shop is mitutoyo, all others have had calibration issues (on new tools). The shop I work at is an AS9100 shop with 275 people. All tools must have current calibration.

When I miss a dimension all the brands show my mistake equally well...

I use "good stuff" where it's clean(inspection) and the cheap stuff in oil/coolant(machines).

I use Starrett, Brown & Sharpe and I even have an old Lufkin mike. I have Starret vernier calipers, Mitutoyo dial calipers a Starrett dial bore gage a Brown & Sharpe inside mic and a mix of Starrett, Central and Brown & Sharpe dial indicators.

I use Starrett almost exclusively. I ordered a brand new B&S for od grinding use only and the thing would not get the same measurement twice. My opinion --- There is another thing that is Bown and sharp!

The poll is kind of restricitve, giving only one choice.

    I have
a Mititoyo 0-1" mic, 0-10mm dial guage, and 0-3mm DTI
a no name 6" digital caliper
    a Starrett 1-2" mic
a verdict .0001" DTI (very tasty)
    a no name internal mic
    no name expanding bore guages
    Regards,
    Mark

Good and honest answer!! I use mostly Starret (made in Scotland too!!), the exception being a 6" Mitutoyo Dial vernier, with a dual scale on the dial which I can blame on the occasions I get it wrong

most name brands will be personal choice, but I use several quality brands. As far as calipers I still have my old mitutoyo 8" verneir calipers, as well as my newer 8" coolant proof IP-66 series calipers. 6" base starrett 0-6" depth mic. even an antique 4" base 0-3" brown and sharpe depth mic. And then my cheapos, 0-12" od mic set, works well since I take care of my tools. There are quality knock off tools as long as they are kept up, as with any tool. My 0-12 set cost 200$ as oppesed to mitutoyo's 1300$ and they look the same
