I have a lot of different brands. Mitutoyo digital calipers last the longest, I do have etalons, and brown and sharps. Same mfg on calipers-etalon, brown and sharp, and tesa. I do have a pair of harbor freight calipers for the garage, and believe it or not they are within .0005 with standards.
My of mics are mitutoyo, except my etalon 0-1. That's a Cadillac.
I have interapid, federal, mitutoyo, and fowler test indicators, but my favorite by far is my brown and sharp .00005 large face. The multiple dovetail fits perfect on the best mag bases you can buy-Noga.
Also have starrett telescoping gauges, a couple sets of depth mics, tubing mics, and a cool pin mic.
And my Blake co-ax indicator. Probably a bunch of other stuff. I rarely use any of it now.
I keep missing the sales on the Mitutoyo's, and then can't afford them without the discounts.
I did get lucky and pick up a nice set of Starrett's 3-4, 4-5 etc similar to the ones shown in Pixman's photo for a nice price. They were in pretty nice shape also. So now I am pretty much set except for the digital calipers. I have a Mititutoyo non-digital, which is nice, but of course, you can't convert to metric with one button. I don't have a digital mic, and wonder if I should bother.
