    Part Quote - Steel Plate

I need a part made. I need a one off "sample" to begin with, then 25-100 batches from there on. It doesn't need to be CNC machined, tolerances aren't all that important.

3/8" thick steel, the cheapest easiest to machine steel will do.

The more local, the better. If local, I can pay in cash. I'm located in the Litchfield/Hartford County area of CT. You can reach me via email at [email protected]

Edit: It would help if I attached the images...

Would you care to explain why that is? I'm not familiar with metal properties and machining (I'm a woodworker by trade). Is it because the thickness of the routed out sections only being 1/4"?

Normally I would have had this done in aluminum, but I need the surface to be magnetic. There isn't any applied force on this plate at all.

I'm in the early stages of design, so things can and will be changed.

CRS 1018, no big deal, it can be put "right on the money". It will tend to move a bit as it is cold rolled, compensate. "tolerances aren't all that important." why not have it right where you want it? It's doable. Is "doable" a word? lol I'm in Rhode Island but busy. I'll watch this thread to see what happens.

    Luck.

Stress in the steel removing that much form just one side might make it curl when you unclamp it.
might have to straighten it if it needs to be nice and flat

How flat do you need these after machining?

Actually, you rough it out against some stops, "bounce" it around untill acceptable in a screw press. Throw the thing back in against the stop and finish it. Deflection minimalized for the final cleanup pass. Especially with cold rolled.

    Luck.

Yeah or stress relieve the material. There are a lot of options all of which cost more dependent upon whether he cares about flatness.

A thought, is cast or boiler plate an option here? In which case I'd go right at it, never worrying about any of this.

Change of plans. I got some quotes, the price was a a little off of where I wanted to be. I changed up the design and manufacturing process. Submitting a new RFQ. Sorry everyone, I hope I responded to every email though. Thanks.
