Hey , great to hear there's life out there. I life near 7th St and the 101 in N. Phx. Now that it's cooler, I'll spend more time working on the machine. Todd, for the price of the machine I bought, I don't think I could have done it cheaper. Came with software, too. I had an old computer with no purpose. Works pretty good and I'll learn a lot more before I'm done!

Hey, I'm at 7th St and Bell! I built a small CNC router, and am finishing up converting it to a CNC laser. I've been researching and doing this for a year, and plan on eventually opening up my own shop.

I'm about to either buy a chinese laser engraver or convert my existing CNC router to a laser engraver.. Could you let me know what parts / kit / products / directions or whatever that you're using to convert the router to CNC. I see a lot of co2 tubes on ebay BUT they're large 30 inch tubes and nothing something easily mounted, aligned or focused on something like a router. Plus you gotta control the beam (on / off), etc.

Just to let you all know. You can purchase assorted items from Circuit Speicalists, Inc. to make your machines. Like stepper motors, Controllers, Linear rods and bearings, Rails and Trucks. Very good prices.

115 miles south , in beautiful Oracle, next to Coronado Nat'l Forest. Did I tell you there are no stop lights here..I think I counted 5-6 stop signs, and we are always 15 deg cooler ( had snow last year,twice).Deer, Havalina, occasional cats always visit our back yard..Lived 35 years in Phyx-Chandler, glad to be here, just got huge up there !And you have to drive on the 101? No way, no more!

todd - I paid $2500 with software and starter clamp kit. I bought it from Supertech. Dennis is the owner, builder, programmer, tech support etc. I bought it locally so I could get support, parts etc. He works from his basement shop near 32nd street and Greenway.

So glad I found this site, and to see all the people in AZ. I'm down at 40th st and McDowell and work down by 7th Ave. and McDowell.

I've been really interested in CNC and laser cutters for a few years now and started getting excited about building one myself for a while. But those dreams slowly started to fade as a started to feel overwhelmed and didn't know anyone who would be able to help out. Now with this forum, my hopes are being rekindled.

I'm looking at building a small CNC machine for small hobbling things. Projects probably nothing larger than a foot square. It would be great if I could get some mentoring from some of you guys or to work parallel with someone else trying to build one as well.

I'd be willing to host a CNC open house at my house. I'd be interested to get your opinions on which tooling I need next. Might be interesting for you guys who have a machine. Also good for those who don't have one yet. I have next to nothing for tooling and just kind of make due for now, being really creative. What do you guys think about early December - week night?

I would be VERY interested in going to CNC open house. I wouldn't be much help however in terms of opinions as I am very green to all this still. I would more just be a house fly and try and learn some things. If you'll have roof for someone that will mostly just be taking up space, I'd love to stop by.

Any luck using Apache Reclamation for parts?

I've found switches, lamps, terminals, etc parts from Apache Reclamation. Unfortunately, I've never found much in the way of linear guides, motors or other CNC type parts. It's always fun the dig around there however - except in the summer time :-)
