Using DMM Servo to power lathe or milling spindle

Be gentle, I am new to the CNC world... so this may be a stupid question, but I will ask it.

I have both a HF mini mill and mini lathe, both of which are in the process of being converted to CNC. In the case of the lathe in particular, I want to be able to cut threads, and I can see where having precise knowledge of the mill spindle location and speed (through encoding) would be equally useful in machining a variety of surfaces. Would I be able to use a DMM servo to power a mini mill/mini lathe spindle in this manner?

I have a dmm servo I will be using as a lathe spindle motor, not a bad idea at all.
Make sure you get a drive that forwards the encoder signals to the control software, such as the dyn3 (dyn2 doesn't do it), so you can do threading / rigid tapping.

Thanks, that was exactly the answer I was looking for because I want to be able to do rigid tapping and threading eventually.

Sounds like I am on the right path.
