"Number of flutes" for drills and feed rate calculation

    Hi folks!

Is there any reason why all drills in tool library have "Number of flutes" set to 2 and not to 1? Feed rate doubles because of this. Do I miss something here?

Simply put a twist drill has 2 flutes . If it doesn`t then it isn`t a drill .

But it causes feed rate to be calculated wrong.

Besides, most taps have 3 flutes, but "Number of flutes" for them in tool library is set to 1.

Feed is normally considered to be a lateral movement in x & y , drilling/tapping is z plunge as your feed. Taps are a single helix therefore 1 flute.

What I really want to know is how you folks deal with feed rates being calculated wrong for drilling operation.

My solution was to change all drills in tool library to 1 flute.

Make sure the "materials" are setup correctly in MC. Alum has almost twice the speeds and feeds of steel..... and steel has almost twice the speeds and feeds of stainless.....
