Started on the 4th axis hoping to finish it some day.... Drilled & tapped some holes on the servo mount as the old servo had different dimensions. Made a 12mm steel shaft to attach btw. the servo/gear box.

Re: My new machine desing, "CNM13"

Got the A axis servo installed to the cyclo gear box. Did some testing and I noticed the servo runs/creeps SLOW when it should hold position.
It's an (early model) DMM 900W Dyn2-H drive & DMM 400W servo. I have connected the cables that came with them. The I/O cable is a plain 9 pin "null modem" cable, fairly long too, so I'm guessing it picks up noise...?
Any ideas before I replace the wiring to shielded+twisted pairs?

Re: My new machine desing, "CNM13"

After some troubleshooting, I got the servo drive working
    - The problem was between the LPT Port & servo drive. It has twisted pair wiring but still the drive got extra input "ghost pulses". Very sensitive I guess..
    - I changed in Mach3 the Step pulse to active low, and now it works as it should. The step signal is now +5V "at rest", and drops briefly to 0V at a pulse.

Re: My new machine desing, "CNM13"

Did some more testing with the servo, seems to work fine...
Also made a few parts for the A axis. Very happy with how rigid the machine is at the moment. Just in case, will still make some extra braces etc.. Won't hurt, even if it's fine as is.

Re: My new machine desing, "CNM13"

Almost finished with the 4th axis.. Hadn't noticed before, but the cycloid gear box output shat has a little slack... Not much, but I can feel it. I guess it's worn...
Now I'm not sure if it's usable. Can't afford a new gear box at the moment.. Any DIY ideas?

    A pic of the 4th (A):

    Attachment 284558

Not in it's final position and not adjusted straight. Did some testing with wood, worked almost ok even though it has some slack.
Works fine when tool is stationary & A is rotating. Won't be able to do any precision parts with it though.

I'll leave it at his. Most things are done
A few minor problems etc still to solve but let's call this "finished":

It's never ever done! Home made CNC's are like boats! You're always tinkering with it... and spending money....

You're right Let's call THIS model finished. (Some parts are already marked CNM15, which is the next design I'm working on....)
I'll take a break building the machine and actually use it for a while
