Large PartPrograms on Fanuc 18MC,how to

    Hi,

I have started a new thread on my Fanuc 18MC.
This time i am dealing with another problem:
I have to run very big part-programs(1-20MB) on a NC that has the memory of 250KB !! This is not very pleasent to start dividing a program in hundreds of pieces i believe, so there must be another way.
I mention that the Fanuc has a 2GB dataserver, maybe the memory of NC can be used as a kind of a buffer, and partprogram to be stored on DataServer. Does anybody a way of doing that?
Is also serial connection a solution?

Thank you in advance for your kind help here.

If you have a PCMCIA card slot next to the CNC's CRT display, you can run large programs from a static RAM (SRAM) card. These cards are available in sizes up to about 8MB, and most laptops can read and write files to these cards. To use the card, you must set the "I/O" bit on the first parameter screen to "4"

I've been told that you must buy an SRAM card (there are other types of PCMCIA memory cards that do not work on the Fanuc).

You can also run long files through the RS232 port with DNC software on your PC, but this requires more effort. You'll need DNC software on your PC, a proper cable, and you'll have to set the RS232 parameters on the CNC to match your DNC system. A proper cable to connect the Fanuc to a 9-pin PC serial port is wired like so:

    25-pin male ------ 9-pin female
    pin 2 -------------- pin 2
    pin 3 -------------- pin 3
    pin 5 -------------- pin 7
    pin 7 -------------- pin 5
    pin 6 --
pin 8 -- <-jumper pins 6-8-20 together on Fanuc side
    pin 20 -

The "I/O" bit on the first parameter page should be set to "0" to use the serial port.

Straight out of the Dataserver operators manual:-

    1.7 DNC OPERATION
You can drive the DNC operation by using the NC program
    in the HDD.
    Procedure
    (1) Change the mode of CNC into “RMT” mode.
    (2) Display the screen of “1.3.1 Display the table of NC
    programs”.
So, “DNC FILE NAME” is displayed on the right and high
    of the screen.
    (1) Input an O-number of the NC program that you will use
with the DNC operation and press the INPUT function
    key.
    (2) An O-number of the NC program is displayed on the right
    and high of the screen.
    (3) Start driving the DNC operation with the cycle start
    switch.

See attachment for dataserver dnc screen

    NOTE
1 You must set “5” on the NC parameter of I/O Channel
(No.0020) in order to use this function.
2 You can not execute this function together with “1.4
    CALLING A SUBPROGRAM WITH M198”, “1.5
REGISTERING A NC PROGRAM” or “1.6 OUTPUTTING
    A NC PROGRAM”.

    Dear Oz and Dan,

    Thank you for your info.
So i have two solution on this, since i do not have card capability:
    1. Serial DNC, with software on the PC and serial communication. How is this working anyway. Let's suppose i have good cable, good parameter setup and software on PC. I load a partprogram on PC, O0001 and send it to NC. Where do i find it in NC, how do i start it? Will it read continuously from the PC? I suppose it will not be stored on the NC, since i want to transfer big partprograms.
    2. Serial DNC from DataServer HDD. That should be a better solution, but i'm afraid i cannot enter RMT mode. I do not have such a key on the keyboard! Please advise on that.

    Thanks,
    Ddanutz

    Hello,

I succeded running big partprograms on NC!
I am stupid, the RMT mode i cannot enter if not in DNC mode on.
Now i run partprograms directly from DataServer, it is so nice to see that.

Thank you very much for your kind help here.

PS serial connection is working too, but its far too slow than FTP, so i won't use it.

I think on some machines there is a DNC position on the mode selection switch. On some of the machines we sell, DNC mode is next to EDIT on the other side to MEM.

    Yes,

On this one, DNC operation i select from Offsets - OPR - DNC1 mode (on/off).
THE NC does not have a special button key on the panel. I have entered into RMT mode by mistake, but what a mistake!

    Regards,
