    Drill programming question

Occasionally, I must drill several hundred small holes, depth about 12 x diameter, in a phenolic board. I use carbide circuit board drills which are limited to about .3" depth. So, for these deeper holes, I run through the pattern as far as I can go (depth) with a stock drill, then run the program again to finished depth with a new drill I have ground back the shank on (The first drill is dull and ready for the trash by the time it has done its part.).

My question is, isn't there a canned cycle or other method of writing the code to rapid the second drill down to just short of the previous depth, then begin pecking, rather than pecking the entire way down through where the first drill has already been?

    Thanks for any insight!

Yes change your g99 to g98 then set your "r" value to where you want to start your cut( r-.25 to start at z-.25) then it will still retract to your original rapid plane (g43 h1 z.1).

Were as a g99 will retract to whatever your "r" value is instead of the rapid plane you start the cycle at.

Thank you, I remember now that's what I did in the past... it's been a while, and the software I'm using wasn't making any solutions apparent.
