Looking for a Substitute to Acurite Millpwr AMI

I have a full size lilian milling machine with 3 axis controlled by acurite millpwr.
The time has come to add an indexer or rotary axis.
Acurite's AMI (controller) is very expensive and loaded with more than i need.
Does anybody know of a control board substitute I could use for adding this axis.

This is the AMI I am referring to from acurite (over $1000.00) i need something simpler but compatible.

This is a little hokey but you could mount a small switch somewhere that when the quill fully retracts it closes the switch. Use that switch to close the index start signal. Dwell the control for an appropriate amount of time before resuming.
Haas used to make a switch that clamped onto the top of the screw where the z stop nuts are. On a manual machine or a 2 axis you'd raise the quill all the way to hit the switch to start an index.
