Hey Al! When you select axis of rotation point which isn't on the WCS/ mechanical axis, the toolpath envokes a Y move to stay surface normal. Is that available with Bob 4ax std?

    LeWhite,

The toolpaths that I used in this part was done using the BobCAD CAM 4 axis standard. You do get a shift in Y for the new base point location ( axis or the rotary toolpath ). But I am not sure if that is really what you are asking. I think you are asking is if the 4 axis standard offer true 4 axis control of X Y Z A at the same time?

It's not really staying "SURFACE" normal... It's staying "AXIS" normal.. So if you have a 4 inch cylinder chucked up at center then set the 4th rotation axis point in BobCad to be below the center point, when the rotary starts to turn around, the tip of the tool will be moving back and forth in Y as the cylinder turns...Tracking that new axis point inside of the 4 inch cyl.

@burrMan. Yes Axis normal requires Y motion when axis of rotation is not center of rotation. When axis of rotation is coaxial to center of rotation there is no Y motion. This has little correlation with surface normal. Thanks, as I have lived my whole life to get to this point. And its all in Bob4axstd.
I owe burrMan a few beercoin and Al tacos at Westec
