    Planing Aluminium (Newbie)

Hi, I wonder if you kind souls will help out a New retired Chinese CNC user. I've bought an Aluminium Vacuum table which works fine for suction
but needs a light planing to get accuracy on the Z plane. What if any bit should I use to achieve this and what speeds etc.. I'm happy engraving acrylic and wood but have never attempted alloys. The CNC is a 3040 and works well on small projects for home use. It has a 200 Watt spindle with approx 12000 revs.
    Thanks Fraxinus

    Re: Planing Aluminium (Newbie)

I would experiment with a scrap aluminium plate to start with.

I assume you have an ER11 collet?

I would use a 1 or 2 flute 1/4" carbide end mill, running at 12,000RPM and about 300mm/minute (faster if it's two flute). Stick to 50% stepover and take very shallow cuts -- maybe 0.1mm.

I would use some WD-40 for lubricant.
