    hit-18s Turret disassembly and repair

The turret on my Hyundai HIT-18S is very loose and wobbly, the problem is the splined shaft that supports it. I have shimmed it several times and that is only a very temporary fix at best. Machine is very good in every other way so I spent the bucks and now have a very nice new shiny gear./shaft/ flange sitting on my office floor. Has anyone ever took the turret aprt on one of these machines? Just looking for some pointers b4 I dig in. I do want to put some video up on youtube of this turret before and after. I'll post here when I get it done.

I never got video of the before to show how wiggly the turret was. New part is in and lathe is as good as new. I did learn something, The flange (right end of picture) is held in the center of the turret by friction only. no keys or pins. It has a male/female cone that is compressed by a ring of 12 bolts to tighten it and hold it in.

That is so when the BIG crash happens the force is lost in compression ring, and not transferred into the drive components. Weak link if you will.
