Will Mach3 run on win98 os with 866Mhz/133bus ?
Will Mach3 run on win98 os with 866Mhz/133bus ?
No.
Item 2.2 of the users manual refers to Windows XP and 2000
OK so is there any reason that 2000 is better than XP or XP>2000. As I have an old 2000pro disk but would have to go buy XP. I want to run Mach3 lathe to grex G100 driving a RC500 set to 1/8 steps. I have a P3 866/133Mhz computer, 933 is max cpu speed on this motherboard.BTW lathe is a Hnc with 8 station hex turret 16000spi on X 10667spi on Z. I don't plan on watching dvds while turning or doing anything else other then running M3 on this computer. Thanx Drew
My understanding is that if you are running a Grex the demands on the PC are a lot less.
No pulsing being done by the CPU. So maybe the older PC will be OK.
I would go to the Mach forum and ask there. You will most likely get it straight from Art.
Windoze 98 is now 9 years old. In software years, it's prehistoric. Windows 2000 will be in that same time warp next year. 98 is no longer supported by Microsoft. If Windows 2K is still supported, it won't be for long. If you're doing Windows, XP is where you want to be.
I use a p3 866 MHz 256 MB with mach3 to run my little mill.
If you stay in 25khz kernell speed you'll be fine.
For a standalone machine win2k is also fine. I believe it even uses less resources then XP so it might be better for an old pc.
If your pc isn't connected to the internet there's no direct need for updates.
So do you realy need support from microsoft ?
I did use the "optimalisation.txt" wich you can find on the mach support site.
But with the g-rex that's not necessary.
Happy 2007 !
