Re: Better lead-screws for Sherline lathe
Jivetin,
I have a Sherline and have had these desires a few times. There was a guy on EBay for a while that did some form of work but he isnt interested anymore. I did however get to talk to him at length. He claims to have done some work on Luiz Ally's (aka Tryally on Youtube) machines.
I did order some Haydon Kerk screws on EBay. They are claimed to be 6mm but appear to be a 1/4-20 with a Kerkote coating. They did come with anti backlash nuts and I would like to use them. I just dont see how to create room for them. My plan is use Moglice and cast the screw into the cross slide. I ordered a screw and nut repair kit today. $57.00. Skip the cleaner as it has a Hazmat issue. Acetone will work just as well. Should be fun. Most of the posts (just a few available) claim .001 or less when done. Extremely durable.
A lazy man does it twice.
