    driven tools

can anyone explain me what are driven tools?
    exemple:
the 12-station tool turret can be equipped with up to six driven tools. This means that drilling, milling, and thread-milling operations can also be carried out outside the lathe center.
    thanks.

driven tools are tools with their own spindles and motors, allowing milling operations and drilling to be performed on the part in the lathe chuck.

They're also referred to as "live" tooling. They add a lot of flexibility to a CNC lathe and allow more operations to be carried out in a single setup, which usually means more cheaply.
