    Mini lathe motor for spindle?

Could a standard mini lathe motor be used to drive a home made highspeed spindle (10k-15k rpm) through pulleys and teathed belt? I more or less have the electronic to control it since im refitting my mini lathe with a computer controlled speed control board, so i have one in spare.

By the question i mean, is it powerfull enough, they are rated at something like 350w

I'm using the motor from a ch-350 mini lathe for my new mill also with a homemade spindle. I also use the electronic control from the lathe.

From my experience it has enough power, more then my proxxon spindle(300 W).

The only downside is that control will drive the motor at max. 3000 rpm.
But that keeps the noise down.

A gearing 4:1 would get the speed up a notch:-) Have you seen this site http://www.homanndesigns.com/DigiSpeedXL.html, if you are interested in controling the speed from within Mach3

I've seen the site but I'm not interested.
I've builded a circuit based on a hall sensor for a rpm readout in mach3 tough.
But I didn't test it on the spindle yet.
