    Carving a relief on wood

My wife wants me to make a relief from wood and she googled for examples. Finally she decided to that relief (see the attachment).

The branches left to the birds seem to be very easy to crack during the carving and I am not sure if it is doable in a cnc router. What do you think? If it can be done, what wood and what tool(s) would you recommend?

Note: I am aware that these type of carvings may take long time of machining. But that's fine. I'll take the risk. There is a wall at home which needs to be filled and I don't want to buy a paint. Something wooden will look good there.

    Best,
    Suat

    Any light colored hardwood.
I'd use a tapered ballnose bit. The smaller the til, the better the detail, but the longer it will take.

Boy, she picked a good one....how big ??

    A suggestion if I may....
    - make frame from 4 pieces, mitre the corners, assemble, engrave the outer scroll work ( easier to do the sharp corners )
    - use a lighter, contrasting colour wood for the inner piece, as Ger suggests

A larger work piece could allow for larger cutters, as the required detail wouldn't be lost

Wow! I am clearly underutilizing my CNC. I wouldn't know how to even begin to take on a project like that. I wonder if there is a good tutorial somewhere on how to create elaborate carvings like that?
