The Red+Black should go to the controller output, the white (GND) should go to an earth ground point.
Unfortunately in N.A. GND does not always mean earth ground, it is used as a double purpose meaning as supply common and for earth ground.
This can often lead to confusion, especially for the un-initiated.
Another common area of confusion is when the earth ground symbol itself is (mis)used for supply common for a schematic, when in fact the chassis or logic common symbol should be used.
