    Lathe End cut question

Question for those of you that do lathe work. When I do a face operation I offset my edge however much I want to face (say 0.060" as an example) and then I run my OD cut starting from that 0.060 back from Z zero. That works great for the first side of a the part when I don't care what the actual length is. But then when I turn the other side I do the same face operation and then run my OD, but this time I'm still to long, so now I have to face off more, but my OD operation is still starting at the 0.06 from Z zero location.

So how do you take care of adjusting the dept of the facing operation and still have your turning program come out correctly?

Are you offsetting the face at machine or in Bobcad? I usually move my part Z- in Bobcad (.015" facing) and then all other operations including length are correct.

    Re: Lathe End cut question

I'm offsetting by 0.06 on each end in Bobcad. Z zero is the face of the part.

For instance say my blank in 4.12" long, so if I face 0.06" of each end that means my part would measure exactly 4.00" long like I want. But if my blank came in measuring 4.50" long, that means my part would now end up measuring 4.38" long (4.5 - 0.06 - 0.06). I want to combine the OD operations with the facing operations, but do this then any X moves are offset by however much my blank is off length wise.

Im running V25, if you are running V24 or V25 attach a zip file of your program so I see what youre trying to do
