    4 marks on all 0 90 180 270 when making a round cut

Ok we are using mastercam x4 on a 2006 Onsurd Router and any time we make a round cut all 4 points 0 90 180 270 have a mark in them too see pic. I thinking that it ight have something with the way it routs. Like if you make letters it almost comes to a stop in corners. (My little home made router just keeps going at feed rate) is this something in the post?

Well, put up your NC code........

This will tell us to look at either your machine, or..... the way Mastercam is set up & used ( including the post )

My instincts point to your machine ... either machine parameter setting, backlash, sloppiness in the guides, bad tooling choice / setup, slop in the X & Y axis drive assemblies on the table ( if it was just 1 axis, it would not happen at the 4 quad points )

    - the quadrant positions are where the servos come to a stop & then reverse direction.....the main place where a tool's cutting action can actually move the table

.. the blue moves seem OK
I'd question the red moves, as they descend as Y is being positioned against the part. The same for when leaving the part...may cause tool flex....but this is at 1 place only
    - there is no other stoppage of the code at the other quadrant points for each circle .... so... IMO...the NC code for T8 is not causing the issues.....I'd look towards it being a machine fault

T7 seems to be just doing small circles

    Re: 4 marks on all 0 90 180 270 when making a round cut

    Mini,

I cannot comment on your particular situation as i am unfamiliar with your setup, however, at work i have a large horizontal borer and it pretty much does the same job day in, day out 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. about 2-3 years ago we started noticing the same thing. We were interpolating the bores, then finishing them with boring bars for correct finish, final cut around 0.25mm. we started noticing these flat spots at the 12:00, 3:00, 6:00 and 9:00 marks. in extreme cases, we found that the boring bar was unable to cleanup these areas completely. our machine is a Hyundai, and we contacted our support personnel and they assured us it was a programming issue. after many hours (we actually spent 2 full shifts) trying different coding etc. eventually we contacted support again and they flew someone up to take a look. As it turned out, it was wear in the ways and screws and was not repairable without spending big money. We adjusted as best we can, fiddled with the coding, and made a point of leaving extra green prior to boring, and this has kept us in business. not sure if this is a similar problem to what you're having, but maybe check for wear and backlash before you get too frustrated.

    hope this helps.

    Cheers

    Jason

i would immediately suspect the machine. your backlash compensation is probably the problem. backlash comp is what tells the servos how much play is in your ball screws, so every time the screw changes direction, the servo knows how far to move the lead screw before it actually starts to move the table.

I posted a small program and bought it home and ran it on my little homemade router and there was none. So i do think it will be a machine fault I bring it up to the big boss thanks for your help guys

Looks like backlash caused marks or equivalent ?

Hey Guys. No one is asking about how much tool load is present. I've seen many job shops cut the material to just over the final diameter and the tool flexes its way around the perimeter because it is completely buried until it gets to the 12,3,6 and 9 positions then it digs in because its not under load trying to climb out. I assume this cut is being done clockwise.. My gut says its the machine screws or servos, but taking a lighter second pass could eliminate this.

My machine did the exact same when I had too much backlash compensation on, but sure it can be that the roughing is too near final diameter.
