Hello,
Looking to buy a 1997 mori hmc sh630 with MSC 516control , primarily run on aluminium , pls give your opinion on this machine - areas to check prior to purchase and usual problems faced.Is it worth buying if the price is right.

We are going to machine only aluminium castings , however we need to maintain H7 tolerances 15- 20 microns primarily on bores.

OK. Mori Seiki SH-Machines will be a suitable machinetype for aluminium machining. They were pretty much developed for this task. But of course how it works in the end depends on the condition of the machine

Personally I would take a close look at the spindle, since it´s often a very high cost to replace this type of spindle from Mori Seiki if needed

The tolerances and as I assume also roundness demands you need will in general be hard to keep on any 18 years old machine if we are talking about milling the bores. For these bores I would strongly recommend to use fine boring tools (especially if deeper bores)

If you want good secondhand fine boring tools for the machine you are welcome to send me a PM about dimensions you need. I have quite a lot of them on stock (mainly made by Sandvik Coromant here in Sweden)
