    Understanding "5-Axis Functions" window

    Hi all,

I am trying to get my head wrapped around 5-axis programming. Joakim was kind enough to send me the machine definition for my machine, but it seems to be conflicting with some other settings somewhere. I have a Mira machine (like this, but with X & Y swapped). Can anyone explain what the "5-Axis Functions" window is all about?

Axis of revolution I assume this is either A-axis or B-axis?
    -Origin (x,y,z)
    -Direction (x,y,z)
I assume these two coordinates create a vector, corresponding with the Axis rotation?

    Spindle Axis
    -Direction (x,y,z)
Defaults to (0,-1,0), which seems strange. The spindle is rotating around the Z-axis (0,0,1), no?

How should I set these for my little 5-axis friend?

    Thanks in advance!

It's easiest just to pick geometry in the file and let the fields populate themselves.

Just create a couple of lines as shown above and use the "Pick Line" buttons.

Thanks Dan. Regarding the axis of revolution, I am using a 5-axis machine (double trunnion type) so I have two axes. That's what's confusing me - I only have the option to specify one.

I would use the B from your picture.
