Re: 109JB's User interface for the Arduino GRBL controller

I have it running on my wife's windows 10 laptop and it is working fine. It just completed running a 87,000 line G-code file. Not sure what to tell you. I'll keep thinking about it though.

What version of GRBL are you running?

In a serial monitor, do the grbl reports ($I, $N, $G, $$, $#) and cut and paste them here.

I've loaded this UI onto my Windows 10 laptop and it fired up first time and connected to GRBL with no problem, so I would not think that there is any issue related to which version of Windows you are running on.

Re: 109JB's User interface for the Arduino GRBL controller

    Thanks Tom.

I actually did find a small problem with my code when testing. If you double click on the connect button you can actually generate an error. I have a fix for this, but am n the process of making changes to the core code to facilitate other functions. I will likely put up a new version with the fix in the interim.

It is good to know that someone got it working right. There have been over 100 downloads and I have no idea if it is working for people or not. If all of the users can give me some feedback as to what works, what you like, what you don't like, etc, I can work toward making it better. I built the code to fit how I use it and it works well for me, but I may not use it the same way others do. Feedback good or bad would be appreciated.

    Thanks,

    John B

Re: 109JB's User interface for the Arduino GRBL controller

    Hello John,

First thank you for programing this great software. I have been using UGS for quite some time but have had my share of problems with it. From closing the window in the middle of the job, to plunging the z-axis into the workpiece while milling and other minor bugs. I don't know for sure of course if it is UGS or Java creating these problems but I have had enough. While looking for alternative software and trying out the other G-Code sender programs but not liking or having issues with them, I stumbled upon your software and am more than impressed by it. I tested it on my laptop running windows 7 64 bit, with a nc file with over 150.000 lines of code with no hiccups what so ever.

    Attachment 297274

Here is a picture of my CNC Controller that I build and also am selling. It uses the latest Grbl v0.9j with the PWM output.

Anyways I really like your software alot, the only thing not there yet (I hope) is, like you also mentioned, a graphical window about the progress of the job. If I can be of any help testing your software or if you need any feedback please let me know. I would love to help.

    Thanks again, take care.

    iHayri,

Your control board looks very clean and well organized.

    Very nice work!

    Hayri,

Thank you for the kind words. I have been busy with work, so haven't had much time to work on the program lately, but I am still adding features and have started a re-work of some of the code to improve performance on slower computers. It is good to hear that it is working well.

That is a very nice looking board. Do you sell them? If so do you have a website or more info on then?

    Thanks

As a matter of fact I do. Here is a link to my eBay site with info on it. I hope it is ok to post that here.

Re: 109JB's User interface for the Arduino GRBL controller

I'm not sure what would be causing that. I just tried re-loading it on my XP machine and did not get the same error. If that error occurred on the initial start after loading it, did you try re-booting and starting the program after a fresh boot?

If you still have problems, I will do some more looking when I can, but I will be going out of town for my day job so time will be lacking.

The problem is still present after reinstallation. It can be seen in the photos.

I installed the .NET Framework 4.0.30319 is not given a positive result.
This was only the logical result:

    Many thanks for the support!

    Hello John,

I also have an old Win98 laptop I would like to use to drive an Arduino with Grbl, and your controller sounds like it will be just the job, however I cannot find your VB code anywhere, the link posted does not work, can you please send me the latest link.

    Kind Regards

    Colin

Re: 109JB's User interface for the Arduino GRBL controller

The program is linked in post #6. This is the executable wrapped in a installer package, not the code itself. Try it, but it may not work in win98 as I had originally intended. I tested it on an old 98 machine and it was too slow if running cam generated 3d code with a lot of short line segments. a slightly newer XP machine was OK, and a win 7 netbook works just fine. I have basically stopped on this rendition and have started a new program in which I intend to incorporate cutter radius comp. It is in the very very early stages and I haven't had much time to do anything on it lately.

109Jb have you any news on your grbl controller as of 10/24/2016? I am in great joy seeing some one fix grbl cutter comp! I have to draw in my own CC or part is not what I want or need! If you get it I will be your #1 fan and shout it from the top of my keyboard!!! Keep up the good work.At present I am building a 2' x 4' x18" 4 Axis CNC ( router, 3D printer, Laser cutter, Mill ) running thru Arduino Uno R3 GRBLized system! I do need G41 & G42 in the worest way!

Re: 109JB's User interface for the Arduino GRBL controller

No changes since then. I am working on an new one, but it won't have cutter comp either. Cutter comp is not a trivial matter when it comes to GRBL. You have to track every move, while looking ahead and behind at the same time to plan the needed offsets. It is just a lot of work and I have to many other things to do at the moment that are taking my time. I just don't know when I will get time to work on it.
