    Tool library question

First, let me say that I'm brand new at the whole CNC business, so will probably be asking some really dumb questions, especially about the SprutCam software, but I've never had any problem in appearing foolish.

I'm in the process of creating my tool library and am seeing something that I don't understand. I originally created my library by double clicking on a machining operation, got to the tool window, then created a number of tools along with their holders. Everything looks good, except when I double click through the list the tool number is not changing. All other data is changing to match what is in the list below. I may have tool #1 showing but it might have N:=2. If I change it to #1 then all the tools in the list are also #1 as I click through them. Also, after I finished the list I discovered the alternate way to create a list by going through the Parameters function and getting to the library function. When I go there, the N number correctly changes as I click through the list. Also, when I check the program code, it shows the correct tool, but with the wrong number.

    Really appreciate any help.

I use sprut 7 and there is a check box for using the tool numbers from the library instead of an arbitrary number.

    Re: Tool library question

SC America just posted a new blog entry on creating a tool library:

Creating a Tool Library – SprutCAM 9 | SprutCAM America Blog

That might answer several of your questions.

Thanks for the help. I found that box and it fixed the problem. Kind of curious why there would even be a choice for a feature like that?

    Thanks again

    Re: Tool library question

The check box exists because some folks choose not to associate numbers to specific tools. Instead they may choose associate the tool number to the operation. Eg, op1 = tool1, op2 = tool2 and so on.
