Apply tool length in manual mode (any OSP control)

I want to use tool T1 (which has been measured) "manually". T1M6 brings the tool to spindle, so far so good. However, when I enter G56 H1 Z100 in MDI mode, the tool offset is applied, but when I switch to manual (hand) mode, the offset is lost!

Am I trying to do the impossible here?

What model is your machine? Some have something called "mid auto manual" that will let you use the hand controls in MDI mode.

Yes, there is a "mid auto manual" mode (button with a hand-and-an-arrow symbol) that did the trick. Thanks.
