    Do spindles run on 120V?

Building my first CNC to use on wood and perhaps metal. I thought I will mount my Hitachi 2.25HP router but I see there is such a thing as a spindle which would be better for cutting out shapes in various plastics and may be metals.

I am confused about spindles as they seem to run on 220V 3phase and need an inverter, all that will be costly. My work won't be industrial 10 hours continuous per day but maybe an hour or two a day. Are there spindles or some other machine that will do what a spindle does but works on 120V?

Yes, you can feed a VFD single phase 110v power and still get the 230v 3-phase output the spindle needs. Here's a VFD like that: WEG CFW100040SAPLZ VFD C10011 - Variable Frequency Drive 110-120V Single Phase Input, 230V 3 Phase 1 HP 4 Amps Output But you won't get the power you'd get by feeding it 220v electricity, not to mention 3-phase. You'd have to derate the drive somewhat, but it might be enough to power one of those little Chinese spindles that seem popular here.
