Just bought an 1989 4020, spent two months cleaning it.
under the X axis way covers, on opposite sides of the Y axis ballscrew, there are two holes that look like there should be lube lines running in. There aren't. All connections are intact. There is a pretty constant flow of oil coming out of these holes just pooling up on the cast frame.
Is there something missing, or is this some sort of overflow/ pressure release?
Is there a better parts diagram that will explain this?
Should there be a line connecting these two holes?
I don't want to reassemble the way covers before I know, and I don't want to pay for oil that isn't going where it should be.

Those are weep holes to keep the oil path clear in the turcite. When you get a nice clearish brown your way lube channels are clear. If its weeping too much that tells you the oil meter is sized wrong. On your vintage your oil meters should be JB-20021202 That is the proper position of the oil meters and position on the metering block. Some factory schematics had the numbers reversed but from 1988-1993 they were all that pattern on non PDI oil pumps
