    Post spindle speed in MDI

    Hi all,
    Got the power hooked up to our MX-55VB and was moving the table around with the pulse generator, then I wanted to turn the spindle on, found in the manual to set the speed in MDI mode with an S coded command and I can't figure out how to enter it!!!
    Thanks for all the info here.

    MDI is used to enter in g code.

    S500 = RPM 500
    M03 = Spindle on Clockwise

    OK, I forgot to mention the control is OSP 700M. So when I am at the "Actual position screen" and push the MDI key on the keyboard what F button (or other button) do I press to enter the g code S500?
    Thanks!

    Im not familiar with this control , can you post a picture. When you press the MDI button a new screen should appear and then you enter in the g code .

    I think you'll want to push F1. DATA INPUT then type the above keys shown by Broby. That control was right about the time they made the switch to make the Data Input key automatic since there is no other reason to go to the MDI mode.

    Best regards,

    Torbide, what the hell are you saying?

    Entering a Spindle speed does NOT use "G" codes!
    See budgieW code example... do you see any G code? Nope, just an S code and an M code.
    This is all you need to start the spindle in MDI.

    I get the feeling you've been in the industry as long as I have.

    "G Code" has become a generic term (in Ohio, anyway!) for any sort of program code, regardless if MDI or full-blown program.

    I'm surprised to find that I have become the old guy that always wants to correct people who don't use the correct terms when it comes to all things CNC, but I've discovered that I'm the only voice. If MDI = "G code" then I guess I'll accept it.

    I liken it to hearing the word "new-cue-ler" - I twitch inside, but it is a losing battle trying to correct everyone.

    You see kids, back in my day...

    Here is a pic of the control. I'll have to go look/work at it again, found out this morning it still had a program loaded, and I cleared that. Like I read on here somewhere, I'm starting to learn how to think the "Okuma way".
    Thanks all.

    Ha ha yes I see where you are coming from.
    I get it all the time when trying to get people to "Say what you mean and Mean what you say"!
    i.e. when discussing negative numbers and the "number" is "increasing" but... there is a "-" in front so there for the number is actually "decreasing"!
    I just get told "Yes, but you know what I mean!"
    I GIVE UP!
    In engineering it makes a bloody great difference!
    Still, in my book a G code is a G code, an M code is an M code etc... and never anything different.
    I would refer to the entire program as a G code program... maybe... but then it really does consist of lots of other codes as well.
    Oh God, I must be getting old!!! Aaaaaagggghhhhhh
