Mach3 z axis goto zero not working

    Hi there,

I'm brand new to cnc machines and got my hands on a dyna 1000 24x36 with mach3. I got a brief run down from the previous owner but now I'm on my own and reading up like mad

I can't seem to get my z axis to return to zero. I can move all three axis but when I press GoTo Zero only the x and y return. Am I missing something simple in the settings?

    Any advice would be appreciated!

    Thank you,
    Tony

When you use Goto Zero, the X and Y axis move first, then the Z axis.

Is the Z axis enabled and working?

All axis work if I move then using mach3 with the arrows but when I use the goto zero function only x and y return and the z stays to wherever manually adjusted it to.

What version of Mach3? You might want to try reinstalling Mach3, or trying a newer version.
DO you have a valid license?
Check through General Config, and see if there is a setting for Goto Zero. Also check in Config > Safe Z.

I do have a valid license. Note at the shop right now but I'll check the version of mach3 in a bit and update if needed.

    Let you know!

I just took a look, and I don't see any settings that can cause what you're seeing.

Question Re: Mach3 z axis goto zero not working

    Gerry,

Is it possible that the home offset was manipulated?

Goto Zero goes to work coordinate zeroes. Home Offset just changes the machine coordinate home switch position, and should only affect Homing.
I don't think that it would have anything to do with Goto Zero.

Re: Mach3 z axis goto zero not working

    I'm running Mach3 R3.042.020

I've also attached images of my Safe_Z settings and Motor Home / Soft Limits settings.

    Attachment 296176

    Attachment 296178

Also, just so you guys knows..... My Z axis is working and I can run simple test files that I've setup. I've created just a triangle and messed with pockets using lazycam. Its basic for you guys but new for me The thing that I don't get is that the z axis is working and run files, but pressing GoTo Zero only returns the X and Y axis back to their zero's. I know that you can customize the screens / buttons in Mach3 so is it possible that previous owner messed with the actual function of the button on the screen? How would I go about checking that?

    Cheers,
    Tony

You'd need to open the screen .set file in a screen editor to check the button function.
Is there any message displayed when you press the Goto Zero button?

I think I have that version on my machine, but I never use Goto Zero. I can't check it because my machine is buried under a pile of junk right now.

I'll download a screen editor and see if I can figure out the function of the button! My machine has homing sensors (limit switches I think) but they don't seem to be working right now otherwise I would use them to home to the bottom left corner of the table. Thats another project along with ensuring the machine is square I did some pocketing on triangles and one side of the triangle is slightly thicker than the other but the depth that the z axis goes down is consistent when it routes out the entire inside.

Sorry if i'm not using the correct terms for these functions / processes. I'm green but learning quick!

    Cheers,
