Do I need to buy a factory RS-485 card from Emco or can I use an aftermarket card? Getting Alarm 2520 " rs-485 device absent (AC). How do I check to see if the card is bad. Not an electronics guy.
Any helps would be greatly appreciated

What control?

it is setup for the Fanuc control
Is it a Fanuc control? What model?
Or is it the Emco PC turn control that emulates a Fanuc or Siemens control?

it is the PC control in Fanuc mode
Then you can probably buy a standard PC board for whatever slot.is available...
Sorry, not to familiar with the small Emco stuff, mostly only the larger ones.with Siemens.

Thanks John. Just got a price from EMCO for the card - $1900!!! Holy Schnikies. Going to look elsewhere.
There is no where else to look I sold my last Com card for $950
If you just brought the machine it should of had a PC with it, the special Emco communication card would of been in that computer, there are some that have found cards to work with programing changes,if you don't have the RS485 card, then you may be better off to change your control to Mach3 or one of the many other options that are available, never buy one of these machines without the PC and Com Card, in some case's the Com Card is worth more than the machine

Thanks Mactec, What would be involved with changing over to Mach 3. I am not an electronics but I have a colleague who is so he could help me with that side of it. I'm more mechanical.
I am using mach 3 on a Tormach Mill.
Had the 485 board repaired locally but still getting same alarm. Anyone know what to look for next?
