G540 Fault - is this normal?

I just hooked up the G540 on my pro 4x2 for the first time today, and I"m getting a fault on the gecko immediately when I turn on power.

Double checked everything, and even switched to stranded wire (which is why it's all red now - all I had) as their instructions suggested, but it's still there.

Could it be due to not having the DB25 cable connected? (I don't have the computer yet for driving this thing).

    Picture attached.

My g540 stays in fault mode until I turn on the computer and start mach3. I think you need the signal to the charge pump to get it out of fault mode.

You could turn the charge pump off and it should turn green (assuming you have an e-stop or jumper wired in)

    Thanks,

even if the "charge pump" switch is set to off?

Not sure. Have you tried it without the motors attached?

Like manyhats said you need the normally closed estop terminals jumpered and the charge pump switch off until you get the computer connected.

These are both safety features, so when you hook up the computer configure a charge pump in Mach3/4 (or LinuxCNC) and add a real estop big red switch.

I just turned the charge pump on mine off and unplugged the db25 and I only get a green light. I would double check the wiring on the ac side of the power supply and make sure that the jumper between 10 and 12 is making good contact. I'm out of ideas otherwise.

You might have more luck asking in the gecko subforum.

Just double checked wiring (again). Found something interesting , my power supply has a switch to go between 110 and 220 (never seen that before), and was set wrong.

However, same problem after fixing that , jumpers look good.

    Gaaaaaauuuuuuuughhhhhhhhh!

    RESOLVED.

Turns out I did not in fact have a fault. Looks like the light for the green power indicator on the G540 is so close to the red fault lens that it "bleeds" over and makes it appear to be lit when in fact it is not. When I moved the home switch to "on", then the light REALLY lit up and much more red.
