Is the Ethernet SmoothStepper still the best motion controller for Mach3/4?

Looking to upgrade from my USB SmoothStepper. I am eyeing the Ethernet SmoothStepper, but I figured I would ask if the ESS is still the best option in the ~$200 price range? My setup is rather simple, 3~4 axis CNC router table. I am using a G540 to drive all my steppers. Running Mach3, but pondering Mach4 in the next year or two. What ever the option I would like it to use Ethernet, but not required.

    Thanks for the help.

I don't know that the Smoothstepper was ever the "best" motion controller, except for maybe when it was the only one available. It is the most popular by far, though.
From what I've read, CS Labs controllers are some of the best, but are more expensive. The UC300 may be comparable, but is USB.
The plugin is what makes the device. Some companies develop much better plugins than others.
