A taper of 1:16 is equal to 3.5798deg so the compound on your lathe would need to be set at 1.7899deg.

Im not quite sure how accurate your job needs to be but i find when im making tooling for our machines the compound figures on my lathe are a bit out so the easiest way i set up tapers with the compound slide is to use a sample taper if you can obtain one, set up in a 4 jaw chuck or a 6 jaw trued to the accuracy that you want then put a dial indicator on the compound slide and run it along the taper lenght and you adjust your compound slide to suit good luck mate greg b
