Hey guys,
I have been sitting on some plans i had for a cnc router but plans changed and would like to step up to laser. I did find one online called lasersaur but for the price the table size seemed small. If i'm going to invest 7k or close to it. I would like to have a 4x8' table..

My problem is I have no clue where to start researching. I know I wanted a co2 tube so I can cut large timbers and such. If you have any info or could point me in the right direction as to what i should run for a frame.

First off lasers can't cut large timbers. You'll need a saw for that. What specifically are you trying to do?

Sorry, I guess what I ment to say was i saw a 4x4 post being cut by one. I neend to cut tiny details like in veneer and then up to wood for mold making. so it's alot to ask of a single machine. I have plans i bought a time ago from cncpro pilot. I just noticed that most laser machines are not real large and are in a inclosed box. That means the 4x8 is a no go. so the largest i can get away with would be great. Thank you for the reply.

What's the thickest wood that you want to cut?

No way you can cut a 4x4 for $7K.

There are plenty of large format lasers out there.
The reason that most are in a a box is for two reasons.
One, it makes it easy to capture the smoke and fumes and exhaust them away.
Two, Lasers are incredibly dangerous, and being enclosed in a box makes them a lot safer.

no way near that thick . I did not think the machine i saw was 7k that did that post. the thickest i can think of would be a 1 5/8 . i figured the box was like for a reason. i guess the reason i wanted a larger one so I can put large sheets of veneer in it instead of having alot of waste. Thank you for the replys any Idea where I could start to look.

With a custom built laser you would struggle to get to 5/8". If you did you would cut very slow and the cut walls would look like charcoal, like the prev photo. I'd contact a quality laser manufacturer and have them prove that it can be done. Look to pay triple that amount for a much smaller machine.

you can find many parts on this website easily.(AliExpress.com - Online Shopping for Electronics, Fashion, Home & Garden, Toys & Sports, Automobiles from China. )
maybe you can buy the parts to build a laser.
but I think it's hard to cut 5/8" timber.
