Thanks Keen, for the video. My sound system is not yet top_notch,and I am continuing to do repeat plays with CC on to get all you have generously shared.....
What are you doing to generate toolpaths?
My programming for mill-turn painfully works..... but is a crude ..
Now with PP with Subs and variables, It seems like a general purpose fairly simple routine for facing...or whatever is the proper term for cutting down the Z axis to reduce diameter... would be a real nice first step.
I have not yet used subs or variable programming , however it seems that somthing like
# <toolnumber>
# <stickout_from_chuckface>
# <length_of_facing_cut>
# <start_dia>
# <end_dia>
# <final_pass_depth>
# <number_of_passes>
# <cut_speed>
# <rapid_speed>
# <retract_for_rapid>
Then there might be some sort of mathamatical /logical expression subtracting[<end_dia> from <start_dia>],then subtracting
<final_pass_depth> from that quanity ,and dividing that result by <number_of_passes>
Thanks

Nice share Keen - and I echo Dave's questions.

Hi Dave
I usually get a short piece of code with the headers etc - actually now I have saved a nice one as a template. Start with that, and hand code the moves - for turning they are simple enough. Test it in the air first line by line - mod where needed.
If I have a complex curve etc I do it with my CAM programme in say 2D x/y then replace say the y's with z's - then copy paste it in. Basic stuff - I am no expert on this, Keen
Oh ..... It somehow boggles my mind....but if you say so ....I believe you ....hahah as smple as replacing all the Y's with Z's.......
Never used it but I think I remember some of the better text editors have a "find and replace" feature to do automatically ? wow
Thanks
Dave Lawrence
Yes the find and replace I think is even on notepad and most text editors...but it is not quite that simple, there are a few other bits of code that need to be swapped out. Practice it on one single curve first, do some study on the area you need to - the Tormach manual is a good resource for this - makes some notes so it will be streamlined fro next time - then do a video - start a thread. Well that is my approach, it really consolidates the learning and it is on youtube for you and all to help you next time!. Cheers.
