    Soft Limits

Can someone explain how to set-up the Soft Limits?
The axis numerical settings are listed in the axis settings page with two entries of the + limit and - limit. The manual states to simply check the Soft Limits box to implement the Soft Limits. There are numbers displayed on the diagnostic page for each axis, and they change as the machine is jogged. The numbers displayed are whole numbers, no decimal point, and with a minus sign. This is after homing the machine.
After checking the Soft Limits box, the Z axis will not jog in the + direction, on negative (down). Unchecking the box, restores the Z moving both directions.
The manual is not very descriptive at all.
When homing the machine, the machine setting is 0, for the Z axis, but the Z axis number on the diagnostic page is some numerical value, like -307.
Much needs to be done in the "User Manual" department.
Testing out the Soft Limits results in many, many crashes, with nothing gained.

    Any help apprediated.

    Thanks
    John M.

    Re: Soft Limits

If you're using inches, try setting the softlimit - to something like 0.5.

    From the manual:

The axis cannot run to a lower coordinate than the set value.
So if the home switch is 0.0, then you want to set the negative softlimit to a little more than 0.0

    Ger:

I finally got it all to work OK. Setting one end at 0, and the other just shy of tripping the limit switch, and putting that minus dimension in the
line. It now slows to a stop, and puts a message box on the screen. I went over all the settings, and had some mis-typed entries. Of course, all the x,y and z homes have to be set first.
