Hello,
With my Haas machines having rigid tapping capabilities is it acceptable to use a T&C style holder?
Or should I specifically use rigid holders?
Thanks

If you have rigid tap just use standard holders. No depth control if you use the T&C and no good reason to use it.
Two Haas VF-2's, Haas HA5C, Haas HRT-9, Hardinge CHNC 1, Bother HS-300 Wire EDM, BobCAD V23, BobCAD V28
I've read about a rigid tapping holder with very stiff motion allowed to account for minor variations in controller/machine output. They claim much longer tap life.
Interesting to me but haven't tried one. Anyone here tried one?

I have used a T&C holder on a older fadal for years ,,,over 600 RPM and the fadal would start pulling threads so they would come out a little loose ,,, with the hard start T&C holder I would just set the rpm like 3 to 5% over what it should have been to pull on the holder spring and it would do great threads up to about 1000 RPM all day long.
Cool. Thanks DD
I've always used a T&C holder to rigid tap. It does give you better tap life, and not so many broken taps. Every machine with rigid tapping has some mis alignment, or mis match, somewhere during the process. Most you'll never notice. Still, the spring loaded collet chucks are the best bet.
