Hi All,
What software do you guys run on your machines. I am looking for something easy to learn and inexpensive. Any recommendations, I am building a 9x20?
thanks,

Skipper,
Well, I guess I will start off this list with one that is not really in favor anymore, but really suits MY purposes.
I run DOS based Turbocnc, and while it has not been updated in quite some time it has other saving graces.
I started learning this back around 2003 or so and instantly got intrigued because it was abe to run on even back then a cheap computer. The biggest thing that I liked that as a registered user, I got the source code! Over the years, I have implemented some bug fixes, add some commands and generally made it suit my needs better.
Today, even the compiler (its written in pascal) is available in the form of abandonware so I can continue to make changes.
I use it on my mill, my router, and soon lathe.
As of yet, I haven't seen a real NEED to change as it is like a comfortable old pair of jeans to me.

I also used turbocnc..
I think a very cool program.. for machineshop works I think still very ok..
I feel likely autocad, you learn it, then you know all program :-)
Can you make external and internal threads with turbocnc? One of the first things I want to make with my cnc lathe are pulley sleeves. can I do this with turbocnc?

I have come across cad2lathe, has anyone use it?
theres no ""automated "" process for threading, however if you have encoder on your lathe spindle, then you can make threading..
while I did not used for threading turbocnc I think still its a great controlprogram..
edit..
if it were added continuous velocity, I think I would use again..
I found some info on threading with turbocnc...
but it also mentioning about spindle encoder..
DAK Engineering - CNC Threading
interesting that he still develop on the program..
Anyone who says "It only goes together one way" has no imagination.
Skipper,
The original Turbocnc was developed for the lathe and use on other machines is more or less of an afterthought. If you go to the turbocnc website DAK Engineering - Home of TurboCNC , you can see the example that Dave has done threading a small unit. Yes, It definitely can do threading both internal and external. It uses a single pulse per rev "encoder" to synchronize the spindle to the operation. You can also download the program for use as it is not crippled in any way and there is also a manual that can be downloaded.

I use mach3 turn. It works good for 99% of things. Only real downside I have encountered are the lack of IPR function when using CSS, Past that It does everything I have ever needed.
