    Corian Master Tile Fabrication

Potter's Fire, LLC seeks a relationship with a new service provider to support the development of a new production process. This process will produce ceramic tiles from our new tile press. The service provider will take 2D artwork, provided by Potter's Fire, and convert that artwork to 3D renderings according to specifications. These cutting specifications will also be provided by Potter's Fire. The combination of artwork and specifications will be combined to generate the 3D artwork and cutting instructions for a CNC machine.

The service provider will then mill a master tile or tiles, and return the tile and the 2D and 3D artwork to Potter's Fire. As this will be in support of a production process, the conversion of file formats and development of the master tile will be date driven to meet customer deadlines. We currently produce between 1 and 5 master tiles per week, and we expect these volumes to increase as we move through 2016. Here are few facts regarding the tiles we produce:

    • Tiles range in size between 2” x 1” (fixed to a mug) and 6” square
    • Tiles will almost always be milled in Corian and you would be creating a positive image in that material
    • Most tiles will require 1/4” thick Corian
    • All will require a tapered bit, no under or straight cuts or the clay will not release from the die in production
    • Some “Art Tiles” will be much thicker, these will be the 4 x 4 and 6 x 6 tiles, they will 3/8 and 1/2” thick respectively.

As mentioned, the master tiles will need to be fabricated from Corian. Discussions regarding alternative materials can be held after we conclude testing with the first two master tiles. Corian is recommend by the manufactured of our new tile press, we currently use Delrin. Specifications for the first tile follow:

    • Disregard the measurements in the graphic file below, the actual tile will measure 3.5" x 2.25" x 3/16"
    • Start milling with a 1/4" thick piece of Corian
    • All black areas will be at surface level, full thickness, 3/16"
    • Blue areas will be cut 1/16" deeper than surface level 1/8" total thickness
    • White area will be cut 1/16" deeper than surface level 1/8" total thickness
    • The board areas will be extended to enlarged the stated dimensions in the graphic to 3.5" x 2.25" by increasing the boarder thickness to 1/8" wide all around the flag.

Specifications for the 2nd tile will be published in one week once 2D artwork has been finalized.

    Mike,

What kind of fillet is allowed on the edge of the pattern (end of the bars, and basically everywhere) and considering that the stars cannot have "points", what are the acceptable radii/radiuses for inside/outside of the facets? Feel free to email me- [email protected]
    Thanks in advance!

Yeah that's a good question, supplying us with a usable DWG or DXF would be nice if your serious about getting quotes.

Potter Mike+ I have provided you with our contact a few days ago, feel free to contact us anytime, thanks.
