Big 2D Chamfer with small tool question

    Hi guys.
    I have X7 and am trying to put a chamfer on a 1.5 inch plate. I need a 1 X 1 45* chamfer.

Problem is, my tool is an inserted carbide, .914 at the big end and .188 at the bottom. I can do regular chamfer with no problem but don't know how to go about doing a second and third step down.

I have run an end mill down the side to get rid of most of the mat'l.
As an observation, it looks like MasterCAM is using the biggest part of the tool.

    Any ideas?

    Thanks in advance!!!

Re: Big 2D Chamfer with small tool question

    I've done this once.

I did it by offsetting the toolpath horizontally and vertically by the same amount. For example, offset .050" out, and .050" down.

However, no chamfer tool is perfect, so expect to do some fine tuning of the chamfer by altering the tool's Z offset between passes.
