    PM-940M Quill Removal Help

    Hi,
I'm disassembling my Precision Matthews PM-940M and am having trouble getting the quill out of it. It will get to the very bottom and there is a definitive thud and no more vertical movement. I stuck my phone in the bottom and was able to get this photo showing a couple of teeth left on the rack.

I can't see anything else that could be retaining the quill. I have tried rotating left to right to see if there was a keyway securing, but that didn't yield it's removal. I hit it with a dead blow hammer and wouldn't budge.

    Any suggestions are greatly appreciated.

    Thanks,
    Greg

Well, my Google-Fu let me down. The first suggestion in the "Similar Threads" section gave me my answer. There is the set screw on the side of the head.

That little set screw has stumped many including myself the first time I went to remove the Spindle barrel...Lol. No shame, happens to the engineer for that are "above" reading the manual.. Haha.

For future reference, in the manual (I would assume at least) there should be a blown apart parts diagram that is helpful in identifying hidden set screws and chips of the sort. When in doubt it's come in handy for me more than once. Lol

Glad you got it figured out!

The exploded view doesn't contain that set screw in it!
