Question Mach3 4th Axis Indexer Jumps Step

    Finished a 4th axis collet indexer w/ a 1:3 ratio. 14T on stepper, 42T on indexer.
20 steps for the motor and 10 microsteps for the Gecko540 drive.
2000 steps per motor rev. The motor turns 3 times for one rev of the indexer.
    6000 steps for 360 degrees. 6000/360 = 16.666 steps per unit

Using 16.666 , the motor will stop and jump between magnets. Making a skipped step.

I changed Steps per to 166.666 and the motor runs smoother.
The indexer will turn 10 times for 360.

I have to use A36 in Gcode to get 360 degrees
Thats going to be hard to remember.

Any idea whats going on using 16.666 steps?

Changing steps per unit should not change how the motor runs. You MUST leave it at 16.666 if you want it to work correctly
Did you change the acceleration and velocity when you changed the steps/unit?

You might also want to use more decimal places, like 16.666666666

Also, did you tune the motor using the pot on the drive?

I think you steps per are OFF by a factor of 10. Perhaps your setting for Micorsteps on teh drive is NOT correct. I acts like it is set for 1 instead of 10.

    Yes, I did change accel/velocity.

The jump step was noticed when jogged
I think I was using either 0.010 or 0.001 increment steps.
When jogged, the motor would turn, stop, then jump a step. You can hear it bump when over the magnet.
When using 166.66 steps per, it wont do it.
