Hi,

I have some parts to surface in V24 that contain a step wall. When I try to add a boundary at the step to keep the tool away (.500 ball nose) the tool path vanishes. If I remove the boundary, I can then re-generate the tool path.... what am I doing wrong? I tried the same part in a copy of V26 I have and get the same issue.

I think that the function of the boundary you are setting excludes rather than limits the area where your tool path resides and this is why the path disappears/reappears as you describe,

When it comes to planar and using a boundary, make sure there is room for the tool. The tool center is driven on the boundary. If you are cutting a more vertical wall and you have a boundary right the edge, there will not be enough room for the tool to fit, which is why the toolpath goes away in that spot.

Thank you both for your replies. Turns out I was trying to restrain the step wall only. I failed to notice you must have a box set up and not just one line for a boundary. Once I created four sides to the boundary, all was well.
