That's lots of great information, thanks for putting your time in to sharing!
I have a question... If I have a 5-axis CAM solution (not CamBam or CNCToolkit?), does this need to be done in Mach or does my CAM program do this for me?

hi,
thank you for this interest.
if you have a CAM solution + and Mach3, you can do great things BUT it lacks two things to compare a machine at over 50,000, but for hobbyst
there is any specialist about 5 axis to answer the question please ?
What difference between :
1 - Mach3 + CAM sofware(5 axis )
2 - Mach3 + Plugin
3 - Mach3 + CAM software + Plugin
To answer to your question mcphill, if you want your workpiece origin independant of the RTCP, you have to load your gcode generate by your CAM sofware in the plugin, and regenerate it. So you can position your workpiece where you want ( do not need to have your workpiece piece center focus over your RTCP), and define the origin just with a probe or manually, the phugin will do the necessary to recalculate all movements:

thank you.

hi
just to answer to mcphill, see lower
thank you
Thanks for the response. Just FYI, I don't yet have a 5-axis machine, but I do have 5-axis CAM. BobCAD has lowered the cost a LOT for this, and there are a few other options that are affordable as well (SprutCAM is another). I have had the 5-axis BobCAD for several years now, but have never used over 3 axis so far - since I haven't upgraded my machine to it yet.
I am going to get there, but it is taking much longer to find the time to do it : (
My current machine is a Mikini 1610L, very similar to the Tormach (actually mechanically identical to the SkyFire machine that is now available again). I have a 4th axis that I want to turn in to a Trunnion with a 5-th axis.
I have also collected some 2 meter servo linear slides, and plan to build a very large machine in my basement. It will have 2 meter X and Y, 1 meter Z, a C axis rotary table and either an A or B axis on the Z axis head. This machine, as of today, I plan to run on FlashCut.
I have many questions about how much the part origin must be defined in CAM and how much is controlled by MACH3/FlashCUT. To date I have not found someone that can answer my questions...
Anyway, I don't have a question, just letting you know my plans and want you to know I appreciate your work!
