    Question V groove bits-specifications

I am finally set up and getting ready to run my table.
I want to try to do some experimenting with V groove bits.

I can't seem to find anything as far as feeds or speeds or even chip loads to figure out what I need to set my machine to.

I have tried Amana, CMT and other web sites. Nothing. Or i'm looking at the wrong places.

    I have 1/2" 90 degree and 1/2" 60 degree v bits and can't find this information.

Can anyone show me the right direction to find this information

    TIA

I think you need to use trial and error with V-bits.

You won't find chip load charts, because the chip load varies as you go from tip of the cutter up to the top of the cutting edge.
Say you have a 3/4" diameter 90° bit.
At the tip, you have zero diameter, removing almost zero material. At full depth, the top of the bit is 3/4" diameter, removing the same amount of material that a 3/4" straight bit would.

You'll also find that different woods will require different feedrates and rpms to achieve similar cut quality.

    Thanks for the reply Gerry,

I am just trying to find a starting point for V bits. I understand what you are saying about the style of bit.

For pine I usually start at 75ipm and 16k rpm. I sometimes run the program twice but set the Z a few thou lower. This will help clean out the deeper v grooves on pine. Pine tends to tear out a little.

Hardwood vcarving comes out much cleaner so you can increase feed rate.
