    starting our G4003G conversion.

unpacked and spaced out the legs

started to install the panel between the legs.... slightly off holes

    chooching

    brackets and panel

    time to install

noticed there was too much oil in the headstock, and cross which could lead to issues later. so emptied some out

that's better,, we can use the extra oil on the g0704 ways now.

    and mounted

    check the oil levels

break it in, and do a test cut in steel.

obviously we didn't empty out enough oil, as it was evenly distributing it to the operator.

aluminum to test to see if any visible harmonics etc , all good

All installed and ready to start the CNC planning

I just started the same one but it's a 4003 and I am replacing the motor and eliminating the gear train. 3 hp ac with VFD directly coupled with the spindle. I am still thinking about the cnc portion. I will be taking a look at yours with interest.

I use a bigger motor and VFD and retain the gear train. Works fine.

Not bad til you turn it up ;-). Mine isnt a Grizzly but it is a gear head lathe. The VFD does give some great options like braking etc.
